Description: Ourisman Automotive Enterprises owns dealerships offering 17 brands of cars and trucks — including Chevrolet, Suzuki, Chrysler, Honda, Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen and Mitsubishi — at 15 locations in the Washington region, as well as a stand-alone collision repair shop.
Developments: Founded with a single Chevrolet dealership in the District, the Ourisman group ranked 25th nationally last year in total new vehicles sold, according to an annual survey by Automotive News. Ourisman is still family-run: Mandell J. Ourisman, the son of founder Benjamin Ourisman, is chairman of the board, and his two sons and stepson oversee all the dealerships. The company topped $800 million in revenue last year, about the same as the year before. But several expansion projects should push the group over the $1 billion mark in sales this year, Mandell Ourisman said. A new Chevrolet dealership in Bowie opened late last year; and early this year the company opened a collision repair shop in Rockville. "There's a scarcity of body shops, and also a scarcity of metal workers," Ourisman said. He said the company is working with local insurer Geico to train apprentice workers, and that the shop is already busy. Ourisman has plans for several new dealership locations this year, the chairman said, but the deals are still under negotiation.
